Bringing Queer Stories to Life with Roberto Nascimento

Roberto Nascimento

In this profile series, Revry is highlighting authentic contributors to the queer media and entertainment community. We ask questions to find out who they are and where they are going in the future. The questions remain the same but the answers tell their unique story. It’s time to explore and celebrate true representation beyond the limits of Hollywood.

Roberto Nascimento (He/Him) was born in Brazil with a very mixed heritage and moved to New Zealand 20 years ago. He is a director, producer, writer, and actor who is passionate about queer stories. As a gay Latino man, representation is very important to him, so one of his main passions is bringing LGBTQIA+ stories to life. His more recent works are his queer web series SUI GENERIS, a short series called SKY TOWER and he’s currently adapting his short film BOYFRIEND into a feature film.

What are you best known for?

I created and directed a web series called SUI GENERIS - an anthology LGBTQIA+ series about dating in the queer world. I made 3 seasons of it and now I'm moving to other projects. I'm always focused on queer stories and I want to keep representing queer and Latino audiences worldwide.

What is the first thing you worked on professionally?

I started as an actor in theatre, so from there I worked as a crew member on short films until I started producing and directing.

What are you working on that no one knows about yet?

I'm writing a low-budget feature with a friend - an extension of a short film we made last year called BOYFRIEND - so all my energy and time is going into that. A feature film is my biggest dream, so I'd like to do that next year.
