International Women’s Day and the entire month of March is a time to highlight and commemorate all that women have achieved - past, present, and future. Revry honors their contributions to our history and society, and to provide recognition and encouragement of a more inclusive future. 

Women have been left out from our history and overlooked far too often. Women’s History Month is a time to showcase the talent and creativity that lives within our female-identifying community. Directors, actresses, writers, and more; we’ll be interviewing creative and inspirational women who make a difference with their art. 

Laura Rivas is a director, writer, and executive producer of the digital series “Tiny Laughs”. Laura grew up in a primarily Latinx suburb in Los Angeles and credits her love for storytelling to her father. She states that her work ‘focuses on quirky female-driven comedies that champion voices of people of color.’ 

What does Women’s History Month mean to you?

Women's History Month means a celebration of the extraordinarily resilient women that have changed culture, society, and history with their voices and actions against a patriarchal society. 

There are so many unacknowledged women who made history. Is there a woman creator that has impacted your work? 

I admire the series creator Maria Perez-Brown and lead actress Christina Vidal Mitchell of Nickelodeon’s sitcom, Taina. It was the first time I saw Latinas authentically represented and pursuing a career in the arts.  It inspired me to follow my own passions despite the obstacles that stood in my way.

History is inspirational to future generations. What advice would you give the next generation of women creators?

This is the golden age for female content creators. Everything is digital and you have the ability to easily shoot, edit, and distribute your work online for everyone to see. Keep creating and developing your skills. Persistence is key!
