In this series, we will be highlighting many notable people who have contributed to the queer community in media. We’ve asked them some questions to provide us with an introduction on who they are and what we can expect from them in the future. 

Chye-Ling Huang is a Chinese-Pakeha writer, actress and co-founder & director of Proudly Asian Theatre, a theatre company dedicated to showcasing Asian storytellers and creating original content in New Zealand. Chye-Ling is driven to create new works that put QPOC at the center of the narrative and to continue growing the web of support for Asian creatives.

What are you best known for? 

Life Is Easy, being Theo Chang on Shortland St (NZ's longest running hospital drama), writing and running Proudly Asian Theatre company.

What is the first thing you produced? 

A show called FOB by David Henry Hwang, my first original was 'Call of the Sparrows', my first full length play.

What are you working on that no one knows about yet? 

A horror show with Cole Jenkins about anti-Asian racism, and a spicy series set in 1950's Malaysia.
