Jayce Baron Advocates for the Black and LGBTQ+ Community

Jayce Baron

In this profile series, Revry is highlighting authentic contributors to the LGBTQ media and entertainment community. We ask questions to find out who they are and where they are going in the future. The questions remain the same but the answers tell their unique story. It’s time to explore and celebrate true representation beyond the limits of Hollywood.

Jayce Baron is a globally recognized Award-Winning Screenwriter and Author, Executive Producer, Director, and Advocate for the Black and LGBTQ+ community. Executive Director of the nationally recognized Kiss & Tell Networks and CEO of jBaron Creative House, he has an organic desire to bring a conscious conversation to the community through film and digital platforms. He’s been in the entertainment business for over a decade from contributing at NBC to independent projects like Kiss & Tell Radio, a savvy podcast he hosted and produced with Media Guru, Shar Jossell. In early 2022, Jayce's film, BEYOND ED BUCK, premiered on AMC's streaming platform ALLBLK and has been recognized in several film festivals nationally. He has been featured and worked with clients such as the CDC, The City of LA, TMZ, Billboard Magazine, The Hollywood Reporter, FOX Soul, Gilead, 360 Magazine, and many more. In 2016, Jayce was invited to The Capital to continue to bring awareness to sexual assault, specifically with men, and was part of passing bill SB816. His advocacy trickled into media as he Executively Produced, THE LIFTED, an action drama film tackling the realities of sexual assault occurrences in rideshare services. The film is the winner of the John Singleton Embrace Award given by the City of Angeles and premieres at the 30th Annual Pan African Film Festival.

What are you best known for?

My motto is "the intersection of advocacy and entertainment" and I'm best known for merging those two worlds. Advocacy doesn't always look like picketing and marching, but telling stories to the media is also an effective way to advocate for change. Right now, our documentary film BEYOND ED BUCK is my most proud project to date. We dive into the lives of those who exist as Black, Queer, and Trans, and the battles that we face including drug addiction, fetishism, racism, employment, and the plight trans women face. I co-executively produced and directed BEYOND ED BUCK with POSE star, Hailie Sahar and it is now streaming on ALLBLK.

What is the first thing you acted in?

The first thing I acted in was probably playing Martin Luther King Jr. in the elementary school play. I was the only Black kid so I got the role! I've been on stage and behind the scene my entire life. I used to write and direct plays with my younger siblings all of the time growing up.

What are you working on that no one knows about yet?

I'm proud to announce a second world premiere for us this year. I executively produced THE LIFTED alongside writer TJ Ali and director, Shayla Racquel. It'll be premiering at the 30th Anniversary Pan African Film Festival and is the winner of the John Singleton Embrace Award by the City of Los Angeles. The film showcases the power and unity of Black Women and tackles the realities of sexual assault. I also want to highlight the Sir Lady Java biopic executively produced by Hailie Sahar and Emmy Award-Winning Director, Anthony Hemingway about the first Black trans woman accepted in Hollywood and responsible for passing Rule #9, which we still benefit from today. We are excited about that as well!
