Poets Are The Destroyers with Nancy Pop

Nancy Pop

In this profile series, Revry is highlighting authentic contributors to the queer media and entertainment community. We ask questions to find out who they are and where they are going in the future. The questions remain the same but the answers tell their unique story. It’s time to explore and celebrate true representation beyond the limits of Hollywood.

Nancy Pop (She/Her) is an award-winning Romanian-American actress and producer based in New York. Her work often dissects the permeable moments between thriller and comedy, telling stories of intimacy and lesser explored truths with elements of camp. Her films have screened across the globe throughout North America, London, Turkey, Paris, and Bucharest, winning several awards including “Best Feature” and “Best Comedy” for her directing work on the feature film, POETS ARE THE DESTROYERS

What are you best known for?

Directing the feature film POETS ARE THE DESTROYERS and making one short film every month in 2021, which I called the "#1221FilmChallenge"

What is the first thing you worked on professionally?

I starred in the feature film NEAPOLITAN by Todd Mattson where I played a scrappy teenager who just wanted to party and got more than she bargained for.

What are you working on that no one knows about yet?

I have three films in development: a feature written by longtime collaborator JC Hopkins about two sisters coming together after the death of their parents, another feature that I am writing about a married couple's sloppy attempt at exploring a forbidden kink, and a short about the relationship between a young woman and her grandfather over the years. The short film I would love to film in Transylvania, where I am originally from. Recently I launched Two Bimbos, my theatrical production company based in NYC committed to showcasing cutting edge theatre for Gen Z and millennial audiences. Our first production, TISMO ("The Internet Stresses Me Out" just closed this past weekend to a fully sold out audience and was listed by Brooklyn Magazine as one of the 14 things to do in Brooklyn that make Brooklyn the coolest borough in NYC. We're currently seeking scripts for our next show if anyone wants to get in touch! www.twobimbos.com (IG: @two_bimbos, email assistant@twobimbos.com)
