Pushing Societal Boundaries with Andro Gin
In this profile series, Revry is highlighting authentic contributors to the LGBTQ media and entertainment community. We ask questions to find out who they are and where they are going in the future. The questions remain the same but the answers tell their unique story. It’s time to explore and celebrate true representation beyond the limits of Hollywood.
Andro Gin is a Cuban-American drag king that showcases their expression through makeup on TRANSFORMATIONS with James St. James and social media. As a non-binary self proclaimed cartoon villain, Andro Gin is defying the way we perceive drag through their unique and bold makeup skills.
Andro Gin performs in Revry’s HOUSE OF PRIDE brought to you by McDonald’s, a virtual celebration of the LGBTQ community featuring Sam Tsui, Shea Diamond, Laganja Estranja and House of Balmain and hosted by Manila Luzon, Ryan Mitchell and Shar Jossell.
What are you best known for?
Born and raised in Miami, Florida under a Cuban immigrant household, I'm known for being the menace in my family. Jokes aside, I'm known for my signature makeup looks. In the Industry and queer world at large I'm known for pushing societal boundaries of what drag kings can do, for pushing the rules and being celebrated and respected for it. And as a product making space for others to do the same.
What is the first thing you produced?
The first thing I ever produced as Andro was a number and entertainment act that I wrote about this queer pyromaniac villain to be paired with the Tiger Lillie’s START A FIRE.
It was such a hit that my career as a performer took off and I toured around the states and eventually achieved global recognition. It is now recorded and available to view for anyone on Instagram and while it has come a long way since it’s conception, it will always remain something I'm proud of.
What are you working on that no one knows about yet?
Finally getting back to touring now that it's safer to do so! Editorial shoots, and also working on a possible comic book series, but that's super under wraps and all I can say at the moment!
