Queer Comedy and Romance with JC Calciano

JC Calciano

In this profile series, Revry is highlighting authentic contributors to the queer media and entertainment community. We ask questions to find out who they are and where they are going in the future. The questions remain the same but the answers tell their unique story. It’s time to explore and celebrate true representation beyond the limits of Hollywood.

Over his 35-year career, JC Calciano (He/Him) has worked in nearly all corners of the entertainment business: from major studio blockbusters, independent features, and reality television to documentaries, music videos, webisodes, and podcasts. In 2010, JC founded Cinema175, an entertainment production company under which he produces, writes and directs projects that predominantly focus on LGBTQ+ comedy and romance genres.

What are you best known for?

I’m probably best known for the YouTube series, STEAM ROOM STORIES, as well as the motion picture inspired by the series, STEAM ROOM STORIES: THE MOVIE. Although, I do receive a lot of fan correspondence for my movies, IS IT JUST ME? and THE 10 YEAR PLAN.

What is the first thing you worked on professionally?

I had lots of small jobs when I lived in NY. But my biggest professional opportunity came when I moved to Los Angeles and was hired by Paramount to work as associate producer of the first MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE for Cruise/Wagner Productions.

What are you working on that no one knows about yet?

Here’s an exclusive scoop. No one knows (including my husband) but I’ve been working on turning my podcast, STEAMY STORIES (it’s a collection of gay short romance stories), into a feature film that I plan to shoot early in 2023.
