Comedy and Drama with Steven Carnuccio

Steven Carnuccio

In this profile series, Revry is highlighting authentic contributors to the LGBTQ media and entertainment community. We ask questions to find out who they are and where they are going in the future. The questions remain the same but the answers tell their unique story. It’s time to explore and celebrate true representation beyond the limits of Hollywood.

Steven is an Australian actor, writer, producer and dramaturg. He graduated from the University of New South Wales in 2014 with a degree in film and media. Immediately after graduating, Steven leaped into the industry with his comedy-drama television pilot, SIDEWALKS. He later delved into the world of fitness and personal training, creating the mockumentary series, ACADEMY, which received distribution through Revry. Steven quickly developed a passion for intelligent, fast-paced and quick-witted scripts and, wanting to assist other writers, began working as a dramaturg. In 2018, he co-founded the production company, Highlight Pictures, through which he has since written and produced award-winning content such as the comedy-drama series, MADE FOR THIS, and  the psychological thriller short film, MISCREATION. Most recently, he wrote, co-directed and produced the horror short film, AIR INTERRUPTED.

What are you best known for?

I am probably most well known for my keen attention to detail when developing stories and  characters. Project-wise, I am best known for the comedy-drama series, MADE FOR THIS, and the Revry streamed mockumentary series, ACADEMY, both of which I wrote, produced and starred in.

What is the first thing you worked on?

Back in university, I wrote a dramatic short film centered on a school shooting and directed a comedy short film about a man who believes he has the power to turn invisible in the dark. My first professional creative project, however, was writing, producing and starring in the comedy-drama pilot, SIDEWALKS, which centered on a group of high school friends making the transition to university life.

What are you working on that no one knows about yet?

I am currently working on two feature film scripts, which I currently cannot discuss in too much detail. The first is a dystopian thriller focused on crime, punishment and the prison system. The second is a drama taking a look at the Australian club scene in the early 90s, including drug culture, and the societal barriers faced by women and the LGBTQ.
