Creating a Community for Queer People through Music

Jay Long

Jay Long

In this profile series, Revry is highlighting authentic contributors to the LGBTQ media and entertainment community. We ask questions to find out who they are and where they are going in the future. The questions remain the same but the answers tell their unique story. It’s time to explore and celebrate true representation beyond the limits of Hollywood.

Jay Long is an independent artist based in Los Angeles that recently released a new music video called L.C.O.T.B.T. Jay generated a following on TikTok after going viral for a video of a song that they later turned into a big single. As a queer artist, Jay Long builds involvement in the community by creating live experiences centering around queer culture.

What are you best known for?

I'm best known for my viral TikTok video CHANGE YA VIBE that I turned into a single available on all streaming platforms now! I am also known in my circle for a community group I've co-founded called "Queer Moment," which centeres around creating immersive experiences with queer artists, vendors, drag queens, gogo-boys, and as many aspects of our culture involved in a live experience as possible. A "Queer Moment" wherever we are.

What is the first thing you created?

The first Music Video/Film I created was HANDSOME DEVIL. I did it on a shoestring budget with friends. Directed, produced, (helped) edit, and starred in the music video! I had so much help from people I've worked with over the years, and as a first video I think it came out great!

What are you working on that no one knows about yet?

I have an EP that has been in the works for a couple years now. It's titled GAY COM, which stands for a plethora of things: Gay Community, Gay Communication, Gay Commitment and Gay Complications. It is centered around the music, but will come with a short publication piece of "Queer Propaganda" I like to call it. Each song has a series of questions revolving around the content of said song, and the publication will eventually be released (after the music). Following that will be a website. A place where we as queer people can gather answers and stories and experiences to hopefully help equip younger generations with examples of success in romance, coming back from addiction, and finding yourself as a queer adult. I imagine it to become a "Chicken Soup For the Queer Soul" type endeavor. <3
