What are you best known for?

I think I am best known for HEDWIG AND THE ANGRY INCH, in which I wrote, directed, and starred in.

What is the first thing you performed in?

The first role I remember playing was the Virgin Mary in a boys boarding school in Scotland in 1973. The best boy soprano got the role of lead nativity mother, I remember singing “Sleep Holy Babe upon thy Mother’s Breast.” And the other boys were much more tittering about the fact that I said the word “breast” then that I was in drag, because that was tradition. And that was not too far as a stone’s throw to Hedwig.

What are you working on that no one knows about yet?

I am working on another fictional podcast series, not a musical like my other podcast Anthem Homunculus. I am also playing Joe Exotic in the TIGER KING adaptation which comes out in March on The Peacock Channel with Kate McKinnon as Carol Baskin.
