Blake Pruitt is a writer, director, editor, producer, drag performer, and activist living in New York City. He's a graduate of NYU's Tisch School of the Arts. His short documentary, 20MALEGAYNYC, was featured on Andrew Sullivan's The Daily Dish, The Advocate, and Huffington Post, as well as film festivals internationally. His experimental short, CAMCHAT, screened at film festivals in the US, Canada, and Europe. Blake’s short doc for Logo about intergenerational relationships has over 1.5 million YouTube views. His narrative short, READ ALOUD, had its world premiere at NewFest 2015. Blake is the Associate Producer of Stephen Winter’s JASON AND SHIRLEY, which had a theatrical run at the Museum of Modern Art and is currently streaming on Criterion Channel. Most recently, Blake has worked in episodic television as Post Production Coordinator on EVIL AND MR. MAYOR and in feature films as Apprentice Editor on Andrew Ahn's FIRE ISLAND and Assistant Editor on an upcoming documentary about the obesity crisis. Blake has been a working drag performer (known as Blake Deadly) for over five years, during which time she’s produced and performed in shows ranging from brunch to political fundraisers to large-scale drag competitions. He’s also an organizer with the Reclaim Pride Coalition and IfNotNow.

What are you best known for?

20MALEGAYNYC, a short doc I made in film school that went semi-viral and played in film festivals around the world.

What is the first thing you worked on?

A short documentary about my dad’s police canine unit in Baltimore when I was 14 that went to festivals and gave me my first professional taste of the industry.

What are you working on that no one knows about yet?

Helping to edit a new queer horror feature for Shudder, assistant editing a feature documentary about the obesity crisis, and apprentice editing FIRE ISLAND for Fox Searchlight.
