November 2021 is Transgender Awareness Month, a time to honor and acknowledge the rich history and culture of the transgender community. We are excited to highlight on network programming to show our support.

As an LGBTQ-first network, Revry shines a light on the people, events and communities that are often not seen or heard in the mainstream, including lesser known historical events highlighted below.

 

November 2, 2021, Election Day


Political Animals

Political Animals celebrates the legendary civil rights victories of four trailblazing California state politicians: Carole Migden, Sheila Keuhl, Jackie Goldberg, and Christine Kehoe. Fierce and unrelenting, these courageous women toppled a partisan majority and emerged victors to pass historic legislation for social justice and LGBT+ equality.

 

November 4, 2021, Diwali


Queer India

Chinese feminist and LGBTI activist Wei Tingting undertakes an exciting exploration of queer India. During one month, she travels all around the country to connect with fellow comrades and participate in queer community activities. Wei Tingting uncovers the ins and outs of gender and sexuality in India, and experiences how queer activism is changing lives. Join her for an inspiring journey into a land of many cultures!

Real Boy

Real Boy is an intimate story of a family in transition. As 19-year-old Bennett Wallace navigates early sobriety, late adolescence, and the evolution of his gender identity, his mother makes her own transformation from resistance to acceptance of her trans son. Along the way, both mother and son find support in their communities, reminding us that families are not only given, but chosen.

 

Crossing Fingers

When a transgender prostitute accidentally kills her pimp, the event ricochets into the lives of everyone she knows. As the target of revenge narrows they all must navigate the volatility of love, loss and treachery.

 

November 11, 2021, Veterans Day


Transmilitary

The 2018 SXSW Audience Award-winning feature film TransMilitary follows the Emmy-nominated short film Transgender, at War and in Love. Around 15,500 transgender people serve in the U.S. military (notably the largest transgender employer in the U.S.), where they must conceal their gender identity because military policies ban their service. TransMilitary chronicles the lives of four individuals (Senior Airman Logan Ireland, Corporal Laila Villanueva, Captain Jennifer Peace & First Lieutenant El Cook) defending their country’s freedom while fighting for their own.
