Rewriting Hollywood with Jared Milrad

Jared Milrad

In this profile series, Revry is highlighting authentic contributors to the queer media and entertainment community. We ask questions to find out who they are and where they are going in the future. The questions remain the same but the answers tell their unique story. It’s time to explore and celebrate true representation beyond the limits of Hollywood.

Born in New York City, Jared Milrad (He/Him) is a multiple award-winning LGBTQ+ filmmaker, entrepreneur, and advocate for inclusion and social change. As the founder of A Show For A Change, a social impact production company, and Movikarma, a nonprofit focused on inclusion in Hollywood that is supported by Warner Bros. Discovery, Lionsgate, and other industry leaders, Jared empowers underrepresented talent to build a more impactful, inclusive entertainment industry. Jared hosts an award-winning podcast, Rewriting Hollywood, in which he has interviewed 100+ Oscar, Tony, Emmy-winning and other underrepresented artists.

What are you best known for?

I am best known for appearing with my husband Nathan Johnson in Secretary Hillary Clinton's historic presidential campaign commercials ("Getting Started," "Equal") in 2015, which received over 10 million views worldwide and supported LGBTQ+ equality and civil rights. I have been profiled by dozens of media outlets around the world, including The New York Times, The Chicago Tribune, BBC News, The Guardian, The Times of London, TIME, MSNBC, CBS, NBC, and ABC News. I am also known for writing and directing numerous award-winning films, including EXPECTING and DISTANCE, and for hosting an award-winning podcast, Rewriting Hollywood, in which I interview acclaimed underrepresented talent about inclusion and social impact in Hollywood.

What is the first thing you worked on professionally?

The first project that I made professionally was HURRY UP AND WAIT, a web series that I created about a diverse group of struggling young entrepreneurs and actors trying to make it big in Hollywood.

What are you working on that no one knows about yet?

I am working on several TV pilots and films, including a political drama about a candidate for Mayor of Los Angeles and a comedy series about a down-on-her-luck singer-songwriter who auditions for a singing reality competition show.
