Sampson McCormick

In this profile series, Revry is highlighting authentic contributors to the queer media and entertainment community. We ask questions to find out who they are and where they are going in the future. The questions remain the same but the answers tell their unique story. It’s time to explore and celebrate true representation beyond the limits of Hollywood.

Sampson McCormick (He/Him) is an award winning stand up comedian, writer and film producer from Washington, DC. Along with touring the country to sold out venues for over two decades, the queer comedy pioneer is most known for his comedy specials THAT B!%@# BETTER BE FUNNY, CHURCH BOY and the dramatic comedy LOVE THE ONE YOU'RE WITH. In 2018, he made history as the first LGBTQ comedian to headline a Smithsonian Museum at the National Museum of African American History & Culture.

Watch Sampson perform in the 2022 edition of House of Pride Brought to You by McDonald’s streaming on Revry.

What are you best known for?

Being one of the first out black queer stand up comedians, a pioneering voice in queer comedy and using comedy to uplift and bring people together.

What is the first thing you worked on professionally?

That's a tough one. I think doing a bunch of clubs back in the day to rowdy audiences forced me to be tough and grow a thick skin on stage. Other than that, the first project I think I worked on was a comedy rap album and a short film by a Philadelphia filmmaker Mikal Odom, that was called SECOND SHIFT.

What are you working on that no one knows about yet?

Ya'll just gotta wait and see! But all of it is some good stuff as always, the things I do just keep getting better and better.
