You never know what's going to be controversial. We've had panels focusing on niche video services at the last few Streaming Media events, both in-person and virtual, but it wasn't until Streaming Media East Connect 2021 that people started pushing back against the term "niche." We saw a shift coming when we named a panel "Premium Niche Services—New Content Frontiers," but it seems as if it might be time to stop using the term entirely.

FAST, SVOD and AVOD are all different ways to bring programming to viewers with different costs to the viewer. All delivered over the internet, FAST is a service that unites live, linear TV with a VOD service whereas AVOD only has video on demand. Both FAST and AVOD are free to watch thanks to adverts whereas SVOD is usually advert-free as this is subscriber VOD where you pay monthly. It’s Pride Month, a time for celebrating the diversity, breadth and inclusiveness of the LGBTQ+ community from flamboyant drag queens to queer music to emerging politicians such as Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg. All of which of course brings to mind…McDonald’s! Wait…what?

Shake Shack, Macy’s, Dickies, McDonald’s, P&G and Samsung TV are among the brands launching initiatives in honor of Pride Month and to celebrate the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, and questioning (LGBTQ+) community.

Pride Month is finally here, and Revry, digital cable’s first 24/7 LGBTQ+ network, is kicking it off with some fun and inspiring programming over the upcoming weekend. McDonald’s, iHeartMedia, and P&G (Proctor & Gamble) are teaming up with Revry to bring viewers a star-studded, entertainment-filled three days that are sure to keep you full of Pride all month long — or at least get you off to a good start.

Demi Lovato, Lil Nas X, Ricky Martin and Pink are among the artists who will perform or appear at “Can’t Cancel Pride,” a virtual relief benefit for the LGBTQ+ community from P&G and iHeartMedia on live and on-demand on Revry. Also performing are Brothers Osborne, Busy Phillips, Gus Kenworthy, Hayley Kiyoko, Jennifer Hudson, JoJo Siwa, Marshmello, MJ Rodriguez, Nina West, Tate McRae, Troye Sivan, and more, hosted by iHeartMedia on-air personality Elvis Duran and singer-songwriter Bebe Rexha, who will also perform her new single “Sacrifice.”

VIZIO is expanding its digital offering with 10 new Lifestyle channels available to SmartCast viewers for free. VIZIO SmartCast continues to increase in popularity as more people opt for streaming. Total viewing time on SmartCast increased by 156% in 2020, reaching 11.6 billion hours of viewing time on VIZIO SmartCast TV. Revry is channel 535 on Vizio SmartCast.

Philo is adding Crackle, Bloomberg TV, and Revry to its current lineup. Crackle offers thousands of movies and TV shows, which will now be available to watch with Philo. Bloomberg TV brings live coverage of business and technology news. Being the first streaming network with an emphasis on the LGBTQ community, Revry features more diverse content to Philo. If you’re looking for the cheapest way to stream live TV other than an antenna, Philo makes the case with its ultra-low price point.

Broadcasting & Cable - Philo said it is adding Crackle, Bloomberg TV and Revry to its low-priced, entertainment-focused streaming platform. "Revry is thrilled to bring Queer to Philo with a curated selection of movies, shows, and news from the newest voices within the LGBTQ+ community,” said Damian Pelliccione, CEO/co-founder. “Revry inspires exploration of creators that authentically represent queer culture for all audiences.”

Chloé Zhao’s Oscar frontrunner “Nomadland” won best film and “Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom” was named best LGBTQ Film at the Dorian Awards (GALECA: The Society Of LGBTQ Entertainment) during a virtual ceremony. The three-hour Dorians Film Toast was broadcast on LGBTQ+ streaming platform Revry. Karel served as the ceremony’s host.
