During Black History Month, we will spotlight the voices of Black creatives. From content creators to co-founders, we’ve asked questions to those that inspire us to tell us what’s on their mind. The interview questions remain the same throughout, but the answers provide a unique view of every single person.

DJ, dancer, talk show host, and actress Lina Bradford describes her talk show ‘In The Doll House with Lina’ as an “Ooo la la cackle cookie kinda talk show.” She is a global ambassador for the Hetrick-Martin Institute, an organization that supports LGBTQ youth and has a long list of accolades for her work as a DJ, including ‘DJ of the year’ and ‘Lifetime Achievement Awards’ at the Glammy’s and Sage Innovator. Lina doesn’t identify with labels and rather states, “I’m not just trans, or biracial, or Jewish. I’m Lina before I’m anything.” You can find her at @TheLinaBradford on Instagram!

What does Black History Month mean to you?

Black History Month for me is a time when everyone can learn and be educated by a group that was not thought of for so long and make it an everyday thing, not just a month.

How does your storytelling speak to the Black experience?

I believe that my story, as everyone’s, is their own and it’s personal which we then decide to share. For me, being a biracial child is a beautiful story and I am blessed every day to be able to represent who I am.

What kind of stories do you feel still need to be highlighted for the Black Queer community?

I believe we need to dive deeper into why there’s so much anger, resentment, and hate within our own community. The LGBTQ and Black community all extends from one demographic that has oppressed us, but we only become what they want. We need to reclaim and clean out all of this systemic brainwash and start fresh!

In celebration of Black History Month, Revry has curated a powerful collection of stories told by Black artists featuring films, TV series, music, and more. See the playlist on Revry.
